Huawei, the Chinese technology company most affected by the US-China trade war. But this time, the company is trying to respond technically. Huawei has come up with a new operating system. It is said that Google's operating system may emerge as a competent competitor of Android. But will Huawei grab the Android market?
The new operating system built by Huawei is called 'Harmonios' in English. In Chinese it is called 'Hongmeng'. Harmonios' contacts were officially revealed at a developer conference held Friday in Dongguan, southern China. There, it is said that HarmonyOS was created keeping in mind the future of the technology world. It is a microcranial based operating system, which can work from Smart Watch to smart phones, all types of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and systems used in vehicles. HarmonyOS will even work on the Android app. Huawei has announced the launch of HarmonyOS smartphones by the end of this year.
Google Android is currently at the top of the world mobile operating system market. Its market share is about 5 percent. The next position is Apple's iOS. Its market share is 22 percent. So in order to capture the market, Huawei must compete with Google and Apple.
Google is betting worldwide with the Android operating system. One of the main reasons for the huge popularity of Android is its open source operating system. As a result, any developer can easily work with Android. Huawei's HarmonyOS is a Linux-based open source operating system. As a result, any developer will be able to change and modify the operating system's components as per the requirement of the hardware and make it suitable for the new platform. Meanwhile, Huawei has called on developers to create apps compatible with HarmonyOS.
Huawei says HarmonyOS will work at a relatively fast pace and is extremely secure. However, Android and iOS are not compatible with this. Richard Yu, head of Huawei Consumer Business Group, says the first version of HarmonyOS will be available this year. This operating system was originally designed for smart devices. However, it is not impossible to publish a compatible version of the smartphone. Huawei has the ability to use the smartphone compatible version of HarmonyOS anytime.
Analysts say, Huawei is not consciously putting itself in front of Android right now. But at the same time, the company is also telling of its power. Huawei is clearly giving a message through this. That is - Huawei could emerge as an Android competitor if desired.
At present, Huawei is at the forefront of the work of five mobile phones worldwide. The main allegation of US President Donald Trump in the trade war is that Huawei smuggles information to Chinese intelligence agencies on the floor. The United States considers the company a threat to national security. Although Huawei has always denied the allegations. But Huawei has been focusing on its innovation this time, after being heavily damaged in the trade war and preventing technology companies from buying technology. The company has been working with HarmonyOS for more than two years. The main idea is that if US company can no longer use Google's Android operating system, then HarmonyOS will be Huawei's main weapon.
Reportedly, some of Huawei's recent smartphones are using parts of HarmonyOS. Soon it will be released worldwide as an open source platform. Again, smartphone makers like Shaomi, Tencent, Apo and Vivo have started experimenting with HarmonyOS. However, Google is not sitting. Google has started working on a new operating system called 'Fusha'. It will be just like Harmonios. Smart TV can be used on any Internet of Things device, starting with Smart Watch. Like Android, Fusa will be an open source operating system. It's called Google's new generation operating system.
Experts say that selling Harmonios in the market through Google and Apple will be difficult for Huawei. Earlier, Samsung introduced the operating system called 'Tizen'. Later, Microsoft introduced the Windows Mobile operating system. But none of them got the hang of Android or iOS. As such, the path to HarmonyOS will be closed. Especially if you don't have access to popular Google services and don't have a wealth of apps like the Google Play Store, it will be very difficult to attract customers. They were also the root cause of the failure of Samsung and Microsoft. However, Huawei does not want to raise its foot in that trap. The company has hinted at making HarmonyOS an open source platform. In addition, Huawei has invested more than Samsung and Microsoft in operating system creation projects.
Huawei might try a relatively clever tactic. Without the direct opposition to Android, the beginning will try to spread the HarmonyOS to all other smart devices except smartphones. Once the popularity, why will the smartphone be left out? Android's monopoly could then be under threat. The Chinese company is preparing for it now. Even though HarmonyOS's smartphone has a usable version, it has kept it in the pocket!
